Gambia
Safari, rivers and quiet nature

Here the river sets the pace, and the day follows.
The Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland, built around a single great river. KURA arranges it for those who want nature, birdlife and calm beaches, far from the usual safari circuit.
Days move with the water: a private boat among the mangroves, a walk with a naturalist and sunset dinners on a beach with almost nobody else on it.

Signature moments

01
Mangrove and river safaris
At first light your boat slips into a channel so narrow that the mangroves close overhead. Your guide cuts the engine and the forest wakes around you: kingfishers, monkeys on the banks and the slow movement of the tide.
02
Birdwatching with a naturalist
A private naturalist walks you through wetland and woodland where more than five hundred bird species have been recorded. He names each call before the bird appears, and you learn to see what you would have walked past.

03
Beachfront evenings
As the heat fades you return to a beach with hardly anyone on it. A table has been set at the water's edge, the lanterns are lit and the Atlantic turns gold for the last light of the day.
When to go
November to May is dry and sunny, and the best time for birdwatching and river trips.

Good to know
Is the Gambia only for birdwatchers?
No. Birdlife is a highlight, but the journey can equally focus on the river, wildlife encounters, culture or simple rest by the sea.
