Senegal

Private safari beyond the usual route

A country best met slowly, and with someone who knows where to stand.

Senegal is a country of contrasts: the energy of Dakar, the quiet of the Sine-Saloum delta and savannah reserves where giraffes walk beneath baobabs. KURA arranges it on a human scale, with expert guides and small lodges.

Nothing here is a coach tour. Days are shaped around you, whether that means a dawn drive, a pirogue through the mangroves or an evening of live music in the capital.

01

Private safari drives

As the heat softens, your guide takes you into the reserve at the hour the animals move. Giraffes cross the track ahead, zebra graze in the long light, and the only sound is the engine slowing to a stop.

02

The pink lake and the baobabs

At the right hour Lake Retba turns a soft rose, ringed by white salt and silence. Later you walk among baobabs that have stood for centuries, with a guide who tells you what each one has seen.

03

Dakar after dark

Back in the city, the evening belongs to music. A private guide takes you through the studios, galleries and kitchens where Dakar reinvents itself, and ends the night at a table you would never have found alone.

When to go

The dry season, from roughly November to May, is the most comfortable time for safari and travel.

Experiences available

  • Private safari experiences with expert guides
  • Baobab landscapes and the pink lake
  • Boutique lodges and river camps
  • Dakar culture, music and cuisine

Good to know

Is Senegal suitable for a first safari?

Yes. The reserves are compact and the pace is gentle, which suits guests who prefer comfort and quiet to long drives.

Can Dakar be part of the journey?

Of course. We often pair a few days in Dakar with time in the reserves and on the coast.
